[Match Report By D. Strickland]
Kingswood ‘A’ had a convincing 38-17 win against St Mary’s ‘A’ at Grimsbury Road on Saturday. Sam Coe scored three tries, Chris Finn scored a brace and Mark McGarrigle also got on the scoresheet, with Finn getting four conversions. From the first scrum, Kingswood piled on the pressure through the forwards and dominated throughout the game. Basic well drilled rugby paid off against a young and quick St Mary’s team. The scrum and lineout pressure was consistent, which presented some good ball for the backs to make ground in both halves. The first half went well for the home team and they started to build a steady lead. St Mary’s continued to pressure though and made good ground through some indiscipline from the home team. St Mary’s came back in the second half and scored two tries in quick succession, but Kingswood fought back and eventually pulled away with a solid team display, with the back line putting in some try saving tackles to keep the opposition at bay. It was an all-round solid display from the whole squad and certainly raises some tricky selection issues in the coming weeks.
