Kingswood Knights U13’s –85 vs Old Reds - 14

Team: Lucan, George, Jack, Theo, Rylee, Charlie, Harry, Wilf, Yoshi, Jayden, Christian, Rocco, Riley, Thomas, Samoree, Samuel and Ryan

This was the final game of the season and it has been a mixed season with a few highs and a few lows. The parents were eager to see this young team finish with a big performance and the lads didn’t disappoint. This was a game when all their weeks of training and playing together paid off and everyone gave their all and contributed to an all-round strong team performance.

Knights started strongly from the kick off with Knights stealing Old Reds ball and Harry leading the way with the first try of the game in under two minutes. This was closely followed with a couple of phases of Knights play while switching the ball from one wing to the other for Jayden to score a try. Old Reds then mounted an attack but strong defending from Knights with a dummy and run from Theo and Charlie pushing the Old Reds attack backwards saw our defence stand strong.

Our scrummaging held well giving a good platform for our backs to control the game. Strong running from Jayden “The Steam Train” Dempsey through the middle and Wilf “Iron Fist” Hacker saw Knights break through their defence for Jayden to score his second try. Old Reds attacked again but this time were stopped by Rylee with great defensive tackling. Knights then mounted pressure of our own and again from a solid scrum we passed the ball along the line for Riley to score a try in the corner.

From kick off Jayden pressed Old Reds ripped the ball and ran through their defence for his third try. Jayden was on fire! In the next moment Yoshi “Silky Toes” Black was skipping through their defence but tackled on the Old Reds five-metre line to pop the ball to Wilf for his first try. Then it was the time for a brilliant forwards try with Rylee “The Rammer” Kenyon popping up a great offload for Jack to dive over the line for a try. Then, in our defence, the other Riley was tackling the Old Reds big gun to make a try saving tackle stopping their attack. Christian led the counter attack with a break which saw Charlie in support taking the ball and scoring a try. To finish the first half off Wilf did a perfect kick behind the Old Reds defence, it bounced perfectly into Yoshi’s hands, on the chase, for Yoshi to score a try. The Knights could do nothing wrong.

The second half saw lots of substitutions so everyone could get a game in the Knights team and introduce conversations getting ready for the next season. Yoshi who has been practicing his kicking all season was very happy about this decision. Knights started the second half with full steam ahead and Yoshi broke through the defence with a pass to Wilf for his second try. Converted by Yoshi. Charlie ripped the ball while Old Reds mounted pressure only for George to kick it out of the Knights half, chased by Jayden who finished it off with a try. The next minutes Jayden ran three quarters of the pitch for another try, converted by Yoshi. Fair play to Old Reds they kept on playing and their lad Harry who had been having a great game went over and scored a much deserved try which was converted.

Not so long later Wilf ripped the ball and charged through their defence and off loaded to Yoshi who scored his second try, converted by Yoshi. The Old Reds broke through the middle of our defence to for Old Reds Harry to run in his second try followed by a conversion. To finish the game off we saw Yoshi “Silky Toes” Black do a chip and chase which he caught on the bounce passing it to Riley for his second try. Rylee “The Rammer” Kenyon not to be undone kicked the final conversion of the game which ended in a water fight with the whole team chasing their coach Oli, who we have never seen run so fast! What a match, everything came together for a great finale, which was probably your best game of the season. Great team effort their lads, looking forward to next season already if you are going to play like this.
